POLITICAL PROPAGANDA: Univeristy of nairobi Students Join The Bandwagon

shebs“ Nairobi’s red-light districts are littered by prostitutes studying at the University of Nairobi” this is the statement that has brought a furor between a section of the University of Nairobi student associations and Nairobi Women Representative Seat Aspirant, Rachel Shebesh….

The news of a suit notice sent to Rachel Shebesh hit the social media with a bang earlier today… The students, in a press statement sent out to various media houses insisted that Ms. Shebesh demeaned them by calling them “prostitutes” on national TV.

Signed by the leadership of Students Union of University of Nairobi (SONU), Kenya Independent University Students’ Association (KIUSA) and Women Students’ Welfare Authority (WOSWA), the statement outlined terms that Ms. Shebesh MUST accept and live up to if she has to realize her dream of being the women representative for Nairobi County in the 11th Parliament.

“Nairobi’s red-light districts are littered by prostitutes studying at the University of Nairobi” said Dorothy Kemunto, the WOSWA Chairpeson. She added, “The above statement is untrue and incoherent with the virtues and principles of the UoN Student community”

“All our students are honest, hardworking, responsible, religious and committed to the
values of education and religion.” Fredrick Ndege, the Chaiperson of KIUSA noted

The students’ association leadership vowed they would mobilize Nairobi residents to vote against Ms Shebesh if she fails to apologize hence giving her sixteen (16) hours to offer a formal apology as well as write a two (2) paged apology letter to the university’s administration.

Another rediculous demand by the student was that Ms. Shebesh’s party, The National Alliance (TNA) make an official statement over the utterances by, failure to which they would take her word as the position of the party.

streetHowever, as the day progressed, new information reached The Kenyan Artivist that a section of the leadership, led by the SONU Chairperson, Ouma Kodhek, later on called Ms. Shebesh and demanded a huge amount of money, as compensation to the students’ fraternity. The payment of the said amount would see the demands directed at Shebesh dropped and SONU would then organize a press conference tomorrow to “confirm” receipt of apology from Ms. Shebesh and make it clear that they accept the apology, an offer Ms. Shebesh is said to have vehemently condemned.

After the tough hotheadedness of Ms. Shebesh, the same officials are said to have called yet another aspirant for the Nairobi Women Representative requesting her to facilitate the onslaught against Ms. Shebesh, who is rated as the front runner for the seat. The said aspirant is said to have agreed to meet the students later tonight (Tuesday 26th Feb) to “hear them out as offer help where necessary as long as the ripple effect of the deal would see to it that Shebesh’s named is tarnished the best way possible”

Speaking to The Kenyan Artist on condition of anonymity, a WOSWA official confirmed the plot and condemned it..

“Our demands for an apology from Shebesh were genuine… We had no intentions of exhorting money from her, until SONU guys came on board. It is not what we expected when we requested to join us… They are meting the other aspirant later to seek her facilitation to realize the agenda, WOSWA is not part of the new plot and we still maintain our earlier position”

Well, it is always said that the last weeks to any elections comes with huge prices, propaganda being one great factor believed to play a major role in changing the minds of the voters. This seems to have gone a little notch higher as exhibited by the students at University of Nairobi.

“I will be on air this Thursday and I will make clarifications on my statement for everyone… The matter of students and red light streets in Nairobi is nothing secret.. I however will not be cowed into accepting demands instigated by my political rivals…”  was the response by Rachel Shebesh when the Kenyan Artivist sort her comment over the same.

Well, be the judge!Image
